QUESTION:
where can I find either free or decently price courses for First Aid CPR/Communicable diseases for ECD?
Hello, I was recently laid off from the company I was working for and former to that I have over five years of experience working with children/education. But, the state I relocated to (which is Ohio) apparently requires one to have CPR certification (which I have just need to renew) and communicable disease course. I was wondering if anyone knew any assets online that possibly offers one or both for free or decently priced [because I am strapped for cash and can't really afford any extra courses at the moment] because I need a job and most schools/daycares will reimburse one typically for taking these courses, but I am unable to find a job because need certifications.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
thanks-
ANSWER:
I take my CPR/First Aid classes at the Red Cross. The price is right and they offer the classes more often than anyone else…at least in my area. Excellent luck!

The Essential Items To Include In Your Emergency First Aid Kit

Plenty of Bandages
No emergency first aid kit can be complete without bandages and gauzes of innumerable shapes and sizes. You can never predict the boundary of an injury; consequently it is vital to have a wide variety of choices in case you need to bandage a wound.
Wound Cleaner
Every emergency first aid kit should also have the supplies needed to properly clean a wound, such as antiseptic wipes, and antibiotic salve to prevent infection.
Disposable Gloves
Having antiseptic wipes and sanitizer are useless if the self cleaning your wounds is doing so with dirty hands. It is always a excellent thought to keep a package of disposable gloves in your emergency first aid kit so that you will be able to safely disinfect and treat injuries.
Ammonia Inhalants
Used to treat or prevent victims who have fainted or are feeling faint, ammonia inhalants may be necessary to keep a loved one conscious and out of harms way.
Pain Relief
Every excellent first aid kit should contain an ample supply of pain relievers in case of a painful injury. We recommend non-aspirin pain reliever in individual packages that can be used to treat pains associated with headache, muscle aches, backache, minor arthritis pain, the common cold, toothache and menstrual cramps. It is also a excellent thought to include fill up boxes in your kit to take pain pills, or hydrate victims.
Facemasks
Having at least a few facemasks in your kit is a fantastic way to stay prepared for dozens of possible emergencies. Some common examples of such emergencies include protection from smoke during a fire, debris during an tremor, or viruses during a flu outbreak like the recent H1N1swine flu pandemic.
Cold Packs
An instant ice pack is a fantastic addition to any emergency first aid kit. They are perfect for minor injuries and a must for athletes on the go, since you never know when you are going to need to treat a sprained ankle. We suggest instant cold compresses that you can activate by austerely squeezing and shaking to breed up to 30 minutes of icy pain relief.
Burn Treatment
Bug bites, or minor burns from the sun or a hot oppose should be treated differently than cuts and scrapes. We recommend including burn gel in your emergency first aid kit to treat such injuries.
Eye Wash
You should always have a bottle of eye wash in your emergency first aid kit, to safely remove foreign materials, chemicals, or relieve itching or burning due to smoke or air pollutants. bones . Failing to properly remove objects or chemicals from the eye can lead to a perilous infection later.

QUESTION:
What is the difference linking EMERGENCY and STANDARD first aid?
Hi, for a job I want to apply for it requires one to have Emergency First Aid and CPR level “C”.But, the place I am getting my first aid from has the subsequent seminars: “Emergency First Aid and Level A CPR”, and “Standard First Aid and Level C CPR”.
I was just wondering what is the difference linking them, and which one is better to take in my case?
So do I have to get the seperate CPR Level “C”?-
ANSWER:
Emergency First Aid is life saving and Standard First Aid is non-life threatening (like splinting a break). You need Emergency First Aid and Level A CPR.

QUESTION:
Difference linking standard and emergency first aid?
St. John Ambulance offers both “standard” and “emergency” first aid courses. What is the difference? Or is emergency= standard + additional training? Please advise! Thanks!-

standard ==is every day stuff, cuts, burns, kid falls of his bike, heart attack (basic) emergency ++ is the coming upon a car accident type stuff, more indepth heart attack (CPR)open breaks, poisonings ,infant care,, and these are 2 seperate classes,, sometimes you must havethe standard to go on to the emergency.. but both are exceptional to have and look excellent on your resumes..

QUESTION:
Should I take a Standard or Emergency First Aid Course?
I want to learn first aid because a lot of jobs now a days want their future employees to have this mandatory. So in your opinion which one should I take? Is Emergency first aid to hard for a beginner like me or can anyone take it at any level? OR should i get standard before getting emergency? :S-
ANSWER:
I would jump in with both feet and take the emergency first aid course. A lot of public know basic first aid. For the most part, standard first aid involves a lot of no-brainer skills. I can’t tell you how many public I come crosswise, though, who have basic first aid but have NO clue what to do in an emergency, and they end up doing the ill or injured self more harm than excellent. My vote is for the emergency first aid course (or if you really want to impress a future employer, a first responder course which you can take through the American Red Cross. Then you would be trained to do things like administer oxygen and help us (EMS personnel) in childbirth).

Medical / Trauma Kits And Supplies
Building a useful and prepared trauma kit requires attention to point and forethought. Will you need ice packs and burn cream and splints and pain relievers? How many public do you expect this trauma kit to provide? Luckily, trauma kits and supplies are available in pre-prepared kits. Whether you need a one self, a fifty-four self, or a one hundred self trauma kit, you can get one fully supplied and ready for use. There are even OSHA approved medical kits available that meet all workplace safety values.
When someone is injured, the type of first response they receive can be the difference linking life and death. Loss of blood and infection are just two of the traumas that can happen someone who has been injured and is not tended to correctly. This is just one of the many reasons it is wise to have a well stocked trauma kit and supplies. Being able to properly respond to a workplace injury, in the field injury, or home injury can provide relief from pain and set the victim on their way to proper care and healing. Be prepared to deal with burns and head trauma and you’re ensuring the safety of your family tree and/or coworkers.
From basic first aid kits to deluxe medical emergency kits capable of attending to one thousand public, trauma kits and supplies are out there that meet your specific situation and conditions. Perhaps you have the need for a portable stretcher. If so, there is one available that folds up in a roll and stores nicely in the case alongside the rest of your medical supplies. Most of us will have no need to perform complicated field surgery in our lifetimes. But being prepared to splint and wrap a sprained ankle or treat a spider bite can save someone’s day, not to mention life.
The first step to building your trauma kit and supplies is to assess your current needs and existing supplies. Is this going in your home or office? Does your workplace contain heavy machinery or work with tools such as in the construction industry? If so, you’ll need a more heavy duty medical emergency kit than perhaps you’d need in a law office. From a first aid kit for your automobile that we recommend all drivers have; to a deluxe first aid kit for the office; to first responder kits, to medical and tramau kits; to nautical first aid kits, they are all available today in handy prepackaged carry bags and/or plastic cases at reasonable prices.

QUESTION:
Where can I get these First Aid Supplies?
I’m taking a First Aid, AED, and Qualified CPR class this semester and we need a pocket mask. Does anyone know what type of stores would supply these? Something that’s not online would be best because I need it immediately. Also, I need to bring a towel? Has anyone taken a course like this? Is it just a regular towel I need to bring, or is it some type of first aid towel? Thankssss!!!!
I want to know a place where I can get it in a store…. not online please.
-
ANSWER:
The best place to get the pocket mask is to buy from your local red cross… call ahead and they should have some in have a supply of, although sometimes they have to order them because they run out. The towel should just be a normal towel, in first aid classes they are used for splinting victim’s ankles for muscle bone and joint injuries… I also sometimes have students bring a towel to fold and kneel on so they don’t hurt their knees while practicing CPR skills because you can be kneeling for a long time. I teach this course and the supplies are pretty basic, most should be supplied by the facility that you are taking the course at.

Knowing First Aid Tips And Cpr. Remembering The Basics

Copyright (c) 2008 Wilfred Ball
Culture first aid techniques is very vital. But it can be hard sometimes to dredge up them all when it comes time to administer first aid. I want to provide to you some small known tricks to help you dredge up, not only how to perform first aid, but why you need to do these steps correctly. Once you can dredge up these tips, you can jump in, take control of the situation and start performing first aid or CPR.
Make up a Mnemonic
When medical students are in school, they need to learn a lot of information quickly in order to pass their classes. And while many of us mediate they are austerely smarter than the rest of us, much of the time, they use culture tricks to retain knowledge – not their IQ. These tricks are called mnemonics. For example, when you have a sprained ankle or other body part, you might dredge up ICE. This stands for ice, compression, elevation. If you can dredge up the word and letters, its simple to come up with the proper steps to take.
In the case of a wound, you might dredge up PCC – pressure, clean, cover. You can even make up your own Mnemonics as long as you can make it simple to dredge up when first aid becomes nessasary.
Practice, Practice, Practice
It sounds dull, but the simplest way to dredge up first aid procedures is to practice them often. Perhaps you can review your first aid class notes or books once a week to keep the steps first in your mind, for example. Sometimes you may even want to hook up with a friend and go over the first aid procedures that you have already learned. Make sure to keep your first aid certification up to date as well.
If you took a first aid class, it might not be a terrible thought to go over your quizzes again and again until you have them memorized. There are alot of tests you can take online to aid you training for first aid certification.
Keep a Manual Nearly
When your mind goes blank on first aid procedures during an actual emergency, you might want to have a first aid book easily available. This book should be simple to flip through to find what you need – tabbed books are best. It might seem a small overwhelming at first. Having a first aid book close will help you stay all ears and relaxed. Make sure that your book is up to date on the latest advice and that its copyright date is no older than a few years back from the current year.
Apply these small tips and tricks to help you dredge up the first aid basics. Then, you should have no problem helping others when the need arises to administer first aid.

QUESTION:
First aid for an ankle sprain
I have no thought what I did but over the course of this night my ankle has begun to hurt more and more. It feels like something is being stretched inside of my ankle whenever I try to go it and it hurts when I go it nearly like it would if you were purposely stretching a muscle. Walking on it hurts and when I stand on it or try to hop on it it kills my ankle. It feels when i go it like a sprain but also like a pulled muscle. I can’t go it without pain. Before this evening I could run and stand and walk and hop without alot of pain to barely any pain but now it hurts when I try to do those things. What do you reckon I did, and what can I do to make it feel better? It is also tender and I have a small scratch on the ankle. When I look in the mirror I can see a bump on my ankle, and the ankle is red. The bump looks about the same as it does on the other side and I can’t tell if it is swollen or not. It hurts a small when i push on it and go it but it looks as if I have a small bruise on the ankle.
